Issues

As Mayor of Rockville, Susan Hoffmann has embarked on an aggressive agenda and vows to continue to:

  • Work with local law enforcement officials to keep our neighborhoods, families and children safe;
  • Ensure Rockville’s traffic and transportation issues aren't pushed by the wayside in favor of others' agendas by leveraging her relationships with the County, in Annapolis and on Capitol Hill;
  • Preserve Rockville's unique and historical heritage, which is a great source of pride to all.

When it came to new construction in Rockville , Susan led the way to the creation of Rockville's new "Green Building Regulations" as part of its building code.

When it comes to keeping our City safe and family-friendly, and ensuring all residents feel equally safe – especially those on the East Side of Rockville Pike, Susan will continue to support police in every annual budget. She believes that the safety of our neighborhoods, family and children should never be less than the highest priority.

Susan will work to put steps in place to continue to resolve the traffic issues that plague Rockville and the entire region. The Corridor Cities Transitway will help address the traffic situation on Route 355, but Susan continues to pressure the State so that the transit mode will be fixed rail—not buses. Metro needs to change its model to accommodate the longer work days by running at full capacity. Susan will work vigorously with the Montgomery County Metro Board representatives and the Washington Council of Governments to that end.

When it comes to being on the forefront of climate change, Susan has demonstrated the critical role Rockville plays in decreasing its greenhouse gasses and minimizing its carbon footprint. Susan's plan continues to implement these steps.

A "Clean and Green" Rockville continues to utilizes ources of energy that do not pollute our air and streams – sources of energy such as wind and solar power. Susan presses for additions of hybrid vehicles to the city's fleet.

Susan seeks to measure how Rockville is impacting the environment and be transparent with the outcome – she firmly believes that IF WE CANNOT MEASURE IT, WE CANNOT MANAGE IT.  Following the Benchmark Study which determined where Rockville's energy use was, Susan charted a new direction for the City.

  • Being a portal for alternative power source aggregation
  • Creating fluorescent tube recycling locations – perhaps with the cooperation of local supermarkets
  • Reminding our population that PEPCO gives free energy audits
